Kettner’s

Intro

Kia Ora guys. I’m (Andy) back from the land of the long white cloud, and needless to say I am ravenous. I have to give honorary mention to Fergburger in Queenstown, everyone knows about it, but that’s a damn fine burger!

Kettners was next on our list, a couple of our mates had told us it was pretty decent, so let’s see if they have a f***ing clue what they’re talking about. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a burger with a background pianist. Classaffair.

Street Kitchen

Intro

Street Kitchen have just opened up their third site in Shoreditch (check out their website to see other sites (and times!)). We were long overdue to visit these guys for a review as we had heard amazing things about all their food. The Shoreditch Airstream is based next door to the Tesco, opposite Pizza East, and only a stones throw from Shoreditch High Street station. It’s in a giant red tent (kind of) with a few other great street food stands keeping them company. Don’t worry, there are heaters!

We had a great chat with Nad, who has worked for Street Kitchen since inception, and you can tell he has so much passion for what he does.. But is this shown through the quality of food? Read on to find out

Intro

They often call Fouberts Place just off Carnaby street the Hawaii of Oxford Circus. Honestly, I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because of this Hawaiian themed burger joint? Or maybe I just made it up. Who knows? Hawaii themed bingo ensues: the shirts (check), surfboard (check), lei (check), ukele (check)….

Haha yeah. I am sure you are asking yourselves. What the F*** is a carrot doing there? Read on for the review…

Disco Bistro

Intro

After a slight hiatus, and an underwhelming last attempt, the Disco Bistro residency at the Rising Sun was next up for a burger review. Absence makes the heart grow fonder an’ all that, so we were raring to go. It’s basically next to St. Pauls, so the fact we were smashing burgers on the first day of lent shows you what religion we follow. So much history, you could almost imagine St. Paul himself popping round the corner to get stuck into a cheeky burger here.

Burger and Shake

Intro

A strange place to place a burger joint, around Russell square/ Holborn. For me (Andy), having worked in Holborn before, the whole area is devoid of any personality (excluding fleet river bakery). It would be interesting to see what this place is like. Their strap line claims “sexy burgers” amongst other things. Who came up with that?

The Burgaffair 2012 Awards

Intro

So we decided to wrap up our 2012 burger experience with some awards for the stand out burgers in their fields. We do not have awards to give out as such, and we want to recognise some of the major players that just missed out too. In our movie theme, we present you THE FIRST BURGAFFAIR AWARDS (hold for applause).  Scroll to the bottom for our Burger Of The Year.

Beard To Tail

Intro

We fancied going slightly ‘off the beaten track’ for this one. Although it doesn’t sound that appetising, the menu of meat and the appeal of double cooked chips on the menu sounded pretty strong. Opposite the Hoxton Pony, deepest darkest Shoreditch is where Beard To Tail live. Review time!

League Table Update 2013

Hello and Happy New Year!

We have extensively reviewed our league table over the last few days and have made big changes to the standings for a number of reasons:

1. The Wenlock & Essex 30 burger is no longer on the menu and the chef has since left the restaurant, so we have removed this from the league table.

2. The chef at Admiral Codrington left months ago, and the burger is not the same as it was. We have therefore removed from the league table.

3. BBQ Whiskey Beer no longer exists, so has also been removed from the standings.

4. For the remaining, there have been some big changes to the scores. What is important for us is consistency. We have been to the majority of the burger joints more than once and some have disappointed us, but some have surprised us.

The three reviews of the burger joints  we have removed from the league table are still available to read however. We are not deleting any posts.

We therefore have a BRAND NEW best burger in London, ELLIOT’S cafe by Borough Market. GO FOR IT

The Burgaffair continues…
